Welcome to Melbye House – a place for well-being, creativity, and innovation!

Melbye House

Melbye House is designed around an innovative "home away from home" concept, creating a workplace where comfort, well-being, and enjoyment are at the heart of the experience. It is also a place that encourages creativity, collaboration, and new ideas - a feeling that is apparent from the moment you walk through the door.
In addition to its distinctive offices and themed meeting rooms, Melbye House features a fireplace lounge, TV lounge, and cigar lounge, all thoughtfully designed to make visitors and employees feel right at home.

In 2020, the HCA Melbye Group opened its new headquarters, Melbye House, in the heart of Oslo. Located at Akersgata 16, just steps from the Norwegian Parliament and Steen & Strøm, these unique offices combine well-being, creativity, and innovation. Modern and inspiring, Melbye House is designed to foster a dynamic and creative working environment.

One of the reasons we created Melbye House was to bring us closer together. The third generation had always been involved in the business on a daily basis, while the fourth generation had pursued more of its activities outside the company. As an increasing share of the business became centered in Oslo, the time had come to move the head office back to the capital. We also believed there was value in being physically close to one another, discussing ideas over the coffee machine rather than by phone or at Sunday dinner.

Working side by side
In addition to HCA Melbye, Melbye House is home to several other companies that lease office space or work from the building on a temporary basis. Companies such as Aboard and 2m2d have permanent offices here, while others use the facilities for meetings, client events, or short- and long-term workspace rentals. This helps create a "dynamic" atmosphere, with a diverse business community and a constant sense of activity. Bringing different companies together and fostering an active environment at Melbye House has been an important ambition from the very beginning.
A dynamic atmosphere
As part of the interior, Melbye House features a wide range of historical Melbye artefacts. The bookshelves are filled with publications from our 100th and 110th anniversaries, while the offices display awards, significant objects, and milestones from the company's long history. Among them are historic contracts and share certificates, third-generation owner Hans Melbye's business cards, and, of course, the "Golden Egg."

The Golden Egg is inspired by the phrase,"Golden eggs don't exist – they are created." This simple idea has become an important part of HCA Melbye's philosophy and has helped shape the company into what it is today.
